SSL Launches XLogic Alpha Converters

December 10, 2006

The Solid State Logic Xlogic Alpha-Link Audio I/O Product Range is a new collection of highly flexible and fully featured multi-channel Audio Converters for Studio, Live and Broadcast Applications at an incredible price/performance ratio. There are three Alpha Link models in the initial product release; all featuring high quality 24-channel SSL enhanced AD/DA converter circuitry and offering a choice of digital audio format options. The Alpha Link MADI SX is a MADI & AES/EBU based converter, whilst the Alpha Link AX & Alpha Link MADI AX are ADAT Lightpipe based converters.

SSL XLogic Alpha Link MADI SX
The Alpha Link MADI SX is a MADI & AES/EBU based converter, while the Alpha Link AX and Alpha Link MADI AX are ADAT Lightpipe-based converters. SSL launched the new range of multichannel converters at the recent 121st Audio Engineering Society Convention.

The XLogic Alpha-Link series of audio converters are 2U-high rack-mountable units, each offering a comprehensive input/output routing matrix used to set up global connections between the various I/O connections that make all combinations possible. There is also a handy front panel headphone connection and a metering section for the analog inputs and outputs with an AD/DA selection button, mode indicator LEDs and 24 tri-colour level LEDs.

All Alpha-Link units can be used as standalone format converters, or when used in combination with a Soundscape Mixpander PCI card, they provide a highly flexible IO solution for native PC-based audio workstations. When the unit is connected to a Mixpander, the inputs and outputs can be routed individually from the PC using the Soundscape Mixer software.

Priced at $3,595, the Alpha Link MADI SX is a high-quality MADI to AES/EBU-based conversion solution, featuring up to 64 channels of digital MADI I/O at 48 kHz (or 32 channels at 96 kHz), 12 stereo AES/EBU digital I/O, 24 balanced analog I/O, TDM format Expansion Bus and much more.

Also priced at $3,595, the Alpha Link MADI AX is a MADI to ADAT Lightpipe-based conversion solution, featuring up to 64 channels of digital MADI I/O at 48 kHz (or 32 channels at 96 kHz), 24 ADAT Lightpipe digital inputs and outputs at up to 48 kHz (12 ADAT Lightpipe digital inputs and outputs at up to 96 kHz), 24 balanced analog I/O, TDM Expansion Bus and much more.

Alpha Link MADI SX & MADI AX shared features include:

-56 or 64 MADI digital inputs and outputs at up to 48 kHz, 28 or 32 MADI digital inputs and outputs at up to 96 kHz
-24 balanced analog inputs and outputs with SSL-enhanced AD/DA at up to 96 kHz on D-Sub connectors (for use with D-Sub to XLR looms)
-64-channel Expansion Bus port
-Word/SuperClock input and output
-Video Sync input functionality for the WordClock input: the Video Sync signal can be converted to WordClock internally and transmitted via the WordClock output MIDI input and output
-Connects to Mixpander via Expansion Bus port
-All input and output channels can be used simultaneously in any configuration

Finally, priced at $2,695, is the Alpha Link AX, which shares an almost identical feature set to the Alpha Link MADI AX but strips away the MADI functionality to deliver an ADAT Lightpipe-based, SSL-enhanced AD/DA solution that hits an impressive price to performance ratio.

The entire XLogic Alpha Link range will be shipping worldwide in November 2006.
